Religious cults have always fascinated the masses and this thriller is no different. The inner workings of the greed and control that the cult leaders have over their followers is astounding. Speak of the Devil is a fantastical story that left me gripping the edge of my seat just waiting to see where the next shoe would drop. With the fear of the heroine always getting caught, I literally cringed at the risky situations that she was put in during each chapter. Britney King wrote a marvelous 5-star read with Speak of the Devil.
As a member of the New Hope church Vanessa Bolton is supposed to do as her husband tells her, which includes what to eat, what to wear, what special vitamins to take and which special “clients” to entertain. As a Siren for the church, it is her job to collect information and get new members to join and bring their money to the church. Elliot Parker is a desperate man wanting nothing more than to get his family back. He’s at risk of losing his company and millions of dollars and risking his father’s seat in the Senate. After having had several one-night stands Elliot moves on to the next but for some reason can’t seem to get one he met in his building’s restaurant out of his head. Elliot doesn’t know that he is to be Vanessa’s latest mark for the church, but what happens if the Siren has feelings for her mark? What if Elliot is now torn between getting his wife back and spending time with Vanessa? Are the two willing to make a deal with the devil to get what they want?
